Hostinger Review

Because of its competitive pricing and quick page loads, Hostinger is one web hosting service that is generating a lot of attention in the market. So, is hosting a worthwhile investment?

In this hosting provider review for 2023, we'll find the same thing. I'll be sharing my observations from years of trying Hostinger's Premium Shared Hosting plan in this review.

The most recent performance and uptime tests that I performed are also available on my test website, which is hosted by Hostinger. Consequently, without further ado, let's begin our review of Hostinger Hosting.

Hostinger Review 2023 Summary

Web hosting packages are extremely reasonably priced at Hostinger. It's simple to sign up with Hostinger, and they provide beginner-friendly onboarding made possible by the Astra Startup Templates plugin, which enables non-techies to launch a stunning website in a matter of minutes.

In terms of performance, Hostinger will blow your mind because it includes a Litespeed Webserver in even their most basic plan. Support is one area where Hostinger falls short, however. Although its uptime was poor, it seems to have greatly improved recently.

Pros Of Hostinger

  • Affordable Pricing: Hostinger is one of the more affordable large web hosting providers. Hostinger was one of the fastest hosting providers in my testing, despite its low price.
  • LiteSpeed Web Server: The fastest replacement for the traditional Apache Webserver is LiteSpeed WebServer. Hostinger also includes CyberPanel VPS and LiteSpeed WebServer with their entry-level shared hosting plan.
  • Quick And Awesome Onboarding: The onboarding process at Hostinger is excellent. In less than 20 minutes, a non-technical individual should be able to get from registration to a lovely website.
  • Beginner-Friendly Panel: This is arbitrary. Numerous functionalities of the traditional cPanel are absent from Hostinger's hPanel. However, I think the hPanel is extremely beginner-friendly, with all the required features that 99.9% of people would ever need to use.
  • Fast Page Load Times: When the results of the LiteSpeed WebServer with LS Cache plugin, which comes pre-installed on new WordPress installations are considered, Hostinger is among the fastest web hosts I have ever tested. Hostinger has no rivals when it comes to page load times when compared to other hosts in the same price range.
  • Free Zyro Builder: If for whatever reason, you decide against using WordPress for your website, Hostinger has you covered since they own Zyro Builder and provide it without charge with every Hostinger plan.
  • Good Uptime: Don't take this too seriously. The amount of uptime is quite individual and greatly depends on the server that hosts your account. At first, Hostinger had low uptimes, with two outages lasting more than three hours. However, once it was recently introduced, I shifted to their Mumbai server before returning to the US server. The likely new server is presently operating with excellent uptime.

Cons of Hostinger

  • No Daily Backups: I'm not sure what Hostinger was thinking when they opted to exclude such an essential function from their two most popular plans, daily backups. Does upselling result in lost sales? Anyhow, if you want to use a Hostinger Single or Hostinger Premium hosting plan, you might think about using a free plugin to backup your websites, such as UpdraftPlus or BackWPUp.
  • Fake FOMOs: A countdown timer indicating the impending expiration of a special offer is shown on the Hostinger home page when you visit it. The offer, however, is perpetual. Although Hostinger has increased its prices in the past, the rise wasn't as quick as Hostinger portrays.

Hostinger Review 2023: Is It A Reliable Hosting?

Is Hostinger a trustworthy web host? Does cheap pricing come with a cheap standard of living? Let's investigate this in more depth.

About Hostinger

Hostinger is not a new player in the web hosting industry, despite the recent buzz around it. Hosting Media was founded in 2004. Its two subsidiaries, 000Webhost, and Hosting24 were founded in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

To become Hostinger, Hosting Media underwent a rebranding in 2011. In addition to 000Webhost and Hosting24, Hostinger also owns Niagahoster, a web hosting company in Indonesia, and Weblink, a hosting company in Brazil. These years started in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

One of the largest hosting brands on the market as of 2021 is Hostinger.

Hostinger Plans And Pricing

Hostinger is well-known in the industry due to its very affordable plans. So let's check out Hostinger's numerous web hosting plans.

Shared Hosting Plans

Single Shared Hosting, Business Shared Hosting, and Premium Shared Hosting are the three shared hosting plans that Hostinger offers. What I offer about Hostinger is that each of their shared hosting plans includes a LiteSpeed Webserver.

Except for companies like ChemiCloud and Namesilo, most hosting providers reserve the LiteSpeed server for their most expensive plans. Details of Hostinger's shared hosting plans are provided below.

Cloud Hosting Plans

Cloud hosting plans are also provided by Hostinger. KVM Hypervisor is technically not used in any of Hostinger's cloud hosting plans. Instead, they restrict the server resources made accessible to each user using CloudLinux. Technically speaking, these are Cloud Infra shared hosting plans.

Cloud Startup, Cloud Professional, and Cloud Enterprise are the three offered plans. The only difference between these plans is the number of server resources you are permitted to use. The lowest-tier plan offers 3GB of RAM and 2 CPU cores, while the topmost-tier plan offers up to 12GB of RAM and 6 CPU cores.

WordPress Hosting Plan

Hostinger offers four WordPress hosting plans for users of the platform. WordPress Pro, Business WordPress, Single WordPress, and WordPress Starter The first three plans resemble shared hosting plans. This, in my opinion, is only a marketing technique to raise the price of the same product. That is Hostinger's first drawback.

The WordPress Pro Plan comes with a Jetpack Personal License and other resources. Even though I really oppose Jetpack and would delete it right away, it is still available for individuals who like using it.

cPanel Hosting

A lightweight and user-friendly control panel similar to cPanel called hPanel is offered by Hostinger for the majority of its hosting plans. However, you may not appreciate the constrained possibilities offered by hPanel if you are switching from cPanel hosting.

Hostinger thus charges more for its two cPanel hosting plans, “cPanel Hosting Silver” and “cPanel Hosting Gold,” to make up for the higher cost of the cPanel license. Notably, a free domain name is included with each of these plans.

VPS Hosting

A 1GB RAM server is available for the unbelievable price of $3.95 per month with Hostinger's unmanaged VPS hosting plans. Hostinger only offers VPS plans with up to 16GB of RAM, so scalability may be a problem.

CyberPanel VPS

Although their VPS is cheap, their CyberPanel VPS is a complete bargain. They are quite similar in price to their VPS hosting plans, but they offer you a lot more. First, Litespeed WebServer powers their CyberPanel VPS. Your website will load quickly if you pair it with LS Cache.

A one-click installer for WordPress and GitHub integration is also included with the VPS. Your material may also be backed up and restored via Google Drive, AWS, etc. The support for HTTP/3 and QUIC in their CyberPanel VPS is another standout feature.

Registering With Hostinger

The registration procedure with Hostinger is perhaps the shortest and easiest. You may go to their home page by clicking the button down below.

One thing I want to point out is that the offer has a countdown timer on Hostinger's home page that shows it will end in a certain number of days or hours. But generally speaking, that's not the case. Although evergreen timers are widely used online, in my opinion, they lead users astray.

Returning to the registration procedure, scrolling down the home page will reveal their shared hosting plans, as illustrated below. For the majority of users looking for shared hosting, it practically removes one click. If you're looking for other hosting plans, you may access the required page by selecting Hosting from the top-right menu.

Clicking the Select option will immediately take you to the basket, where you may modify the length of your plan and also create an account, regardless of whether you are on the home page or the product page.

I appreciate that Hostinger does not gather any personal information. To create a Hostinger account, all you need to do is enter your email address. Impressive and conversion-focused, really.

There are also no upsells at all, which is important to note. Again, it is impressive given that they fall into the inexpensive hosting market, where upsells are commonplace.

Onboarding Experience

Hostinger is one of the very few hosting companies that has tailored its onboarding. I registered with them way back in 2018 and, I assume, 2019 as well, and I must say that my experience with their onboarding process was very average. In actuality, it was too confusing the second time.

However, they completely modified their onboarding process when I signed up for a test website to write this evaluation. It was outstanding, to put it mildly. No other company, in my opinion, even comes close.

To customize things for you, Hostinger will first ask you several questions. Following completion, you will be given the option to install WordPress, WooCommerce + WordPress, or other applications of your choosing.

Furthermore, Hostinger allows you to use their Zyro website builder, which is quickly gaining popularity among businesses building static websites.

Hostinger Onboarding
Hostinger Onboarding

If you select WordPress, Hostinger offers you the option to set your own username and password, in contrast to certain other hosting companies. You also have the option to migrate an existing website; however, choosing between www and non-www versions of your website is something I would want to be able to do. However, you may still alter it in the future from your WordPress Dashboard.

If you don't already have a website to migrate, Hostinger also lets you choose from a variety of pre-made WordPress website templates. Hostinger takes advantage of the starter templates plugin‘s pre-built website themes. The plugin will import the whole website, which you can then customize to your preferences.

The option to buy a domain name or use an already-registered domain name will then appear.

Hostinger asks you to select your data center location at the very last step, unlike the majority of other hosting companies. The onboarding process was fantastic all around and user-friendly for beginners.

Hostinger Control Panel (hPanel)

Hostinger offers cPanel and hPanel plans. For my test account, I opted for one of their standard hPanel shared hosting plans, even though cPanel is quite popular and the majority of users are already familiar with it.

I was surprised by how clean and uncluttered the hPanel appears. You may discover the majority of frequently used options in the hPanel, even though it lacks several complex options found in the cPanel. Although cPanel may be missed by experienced users, hPanel looks less complex and is thus a better option for beginners.

Even the one-click installation has been changed, in addition to the hPanel. Softaculous fans would be let down. However, their unique one-click installation works just as well. The www subdomain's ability to serve as your default URL is what's missing. I don't know why Hostinger overlooked that.

Additionally, Hostinger's hPanel has a dashboard function that enables you to manage your WordPress website without entering your WordPress Dashboard.

From the hosting provider's dashboard, you can force HTTPS, enable maintenance mode, activate or deactivate, and flush the LiteSpeed cache. The Dashboard also allows users to enable and disable Cloudflare, manage SSL certificates, and update WordPress.

Hostinger Dashboard in hPanel
Hostinger Dashboard in hPanel

Your first upsell from Hostinger will appear in the WordPress Dashboard. You will have to pay extra for daily backups if you have their Single Shared Hosting or Premium Shared Hosting Plan. In my opinion, Hostinger's Premium Shared Hosting plan should have included daily backups at the very least.

Additionally, you must pay to enable Cloudflare from the dashboard if you are on their Single Shared Hosting plan. And no, Cloudflare's professional edition is not it. You won't get a $20 plan with a hosting service that costs less than $2 (Liquid Web offers a Cloudflare Pro plan with its $20 VPS, which comes with 2GB of RAM and a free cPanel license). It's hard to believe.

In any case, Hostinger is charging you to use CloudFlare's free plan. I have no idea how many individuals fell into this trap, but it may be generating Hostinger some more money with no extra effort.

The hPanel also has a plugin area where you may enable and disable plugins. You cannot, however, add or remove plugins.

Hostinger hPanel Plugins

In addition to the options mentioned above, the hPanel has all the usual options as well, such as checking your usage history, renewing and upgrading your plan, adding and managing email accounts, managing your domains and subdomains, using the auto-installer, using the file manager, and more.

It seems that Hostinger is pushing Fiverr as well. The hPanel has a Fiverr option, and Hostinger seems to be using an affiliate link for it. This is unusual for a web hosting company.

Hostinger Speed

One of the fastest hosts I have tried so far is Hostinger. It's amazing how fast Hostinger is right out of the gate.

Therefore, even if you are a non-technical person who has no idea about website optimization and caching, you can still use Hostinger to experience websites that load very quickly.

We concluded the assessment by using GTmetrix to track response times and any outages on our test website from various locations across the globe.

Even though our test site was housed on Hostinger's most affordable shared hosting plan, throughout the 10 weeks of monitoring, it maintained a reliable 100% uptime record.

But page loads are also important, so we used PageSpeed Insights (opens in a new tab) to evaluate the speed, however, bear in mind that all comparisons are based on each testing provider's least expensive shared hosting plan. Overall, we believe the company performed well since some of those plans cost 5 to 10 times as much as the $1.39 you might spend with Hostinger.

Hostinger Customer Support

I've had the pleasure of testing Hostinger repeatedly over the years as a long-time user. The support used to be one of my favorite aspects of the service. Although phone support wasn't offered (and still isn't), wow, was live chat a great method to seek assistance?

Professional staff is on hand around the clock, supported by a vast body of knowledge of enormous dimensions. The only issue? The agents used to reply right away, but now it takes them roughly 40 minutes to react. When live chat isn't even an option, you're directed to a ticketing or email system, both of which I've had very little success with.

This implies that it will be just you and the knowledge base, to be honest with you. You can't plan on having an hour to sit around and do nothing, and even when the agents do respond, the procedure has just begun. Asking a few straightforward inquiries might turn into a whole workday when there are response times of 3–4 minutes between messages.

Live chat was not even an option when I attempted to get in touch with customer service before signing up. I was forced to use email. Why? Why would you harm anyone like that? At least the response showed that the representative was competent and open about what I might anticipate:

Hostinger mail support
Hostinger mail support

(Question #3) I inquired whether they would assist me in “putting up my site and everything”. Many hosts will give you the answer you want to hear, which is “yes”, but then abandon you when the time comes. Sincerity goes a long way, so when a host says, “Well, development is sort of on you, guy”, I respect them much more.

After signing up, contacting the agents was a mixed bag. They would sometimes take “a few hours” to respond.

Hostinger Money-Back Guarantee

For its web hosting services and other products, Hostinger offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. The good news is that, in contrast to the majority of hosting companies, Hostinger also offers refunds on certain domain extensions if canceled within the first 96 hours.

Additionally, there aren't any ambiguous clauses that the company could use to deny refunds, which is again a great thing.

However, owing to the understandably volatile value of cryptocurrencies, no refunds will be given for products bought with them. Refunds in these circumstances may be transferred to your Hostinger balance.

Additionally, the following will not be eligible for refunds:

  • First payment after the Free Hostinger Trial for Web Hosting
  • Failed domain transfers for .eu and .es domain names
  • Domain name renewals
  • A few domain extensions (do not include the .com TLD)
  • Redemption fees
  • Privacy protection
  • SEO marketing panel
  • SEO toolkit
  • VPS License
  • Google Workspace email

Again, there's no need to worry since practically all hosting companies won't refund the aforementioned products.

In general, Hostinger's refund policy is excellent. Therefore, you are free to buy and test out their services for 30 days.

One of the most affordable web hosting plans is offered by Hostinger. Regardless of the plan you choose, Hostinger is one of the fastest hosting companies I tested, despite their cheap pricing, as I discussed in my review.

To sum up this Hostinger review for 2023, if you want a fast website at affordable pricing and don't mind waiting on chat for extended periods to have your questions addressed, Hostinger is the best option for you.

Feel free to leave a comment if you still have any questions about Hostinger hosting, and I'll do my best to answer as soon as possible.

Hostinger Review FAQs

Does Hostinger cost more when you renew?

Plans for Hostinger are slightly more expensive when renewed since the new customer discount is no longer available. But if you choose one of its long-term plans, you may still save money.

Do I need to pay extra for backups with Hostinger?

Weekly automated backups are a feature of the single shared hosting plan. You may choose the Business shared hosting plan, which includes daily backups at no charge, or you can pay an additional monthly premium for daily backups.

Why is Hostinger so cheap?

For new clients, Hostinger offers substantial savings, particularly if you buy a 48-month plan. However, several of the premium amenities featured in more costly hosts are absent from its most basic plan, which still includes all the necessities. Check our coupons page to learn more about fantastic offers from Hostinger. I would also suggest that you check out our comprehensive guide on creating a website in 2022 if you are new to web hosting.

What payment types does Hostinger support?

Credit cards, PayPal, Google Pay, Alipay, Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies through CoinGate are all accepted forms of payment at Hostinger.

How easy is it to transfer a website to another host?

Most hosts take care of this for you. For instance, upon request, the support staff at Hostinger will move your site for free. A large number of the hosts on our list of the best web hosts for 2022 offer comparable services.

Does Hostinger offer refunds?

The hosting plans and certain other products from Hostinger are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. These contain SSL certificates, which other hosts often ignore.

It's encouraging to note that Hostinger's policy covers renewal expenses in addition to your initial purchase since this is something that not many hosts offer.

The last benefit is a restricted four-day warranty for select domain name transfers and registrations (a list is available in the official Refund Policy at https://www.hostinger.com/refund-policy). The majority of hosts don't offer any domain-related refunds at all, but four days isn't a long time.

What are Hostinger nameservers?

It may be essential to connect an existing domain to Hostinger's nameservers before using it with your web hosting.

The hPanel, Shared, and Cloud plans use the nameservers ns1.dns-parking.com and ns2.dns-parking.com.

The cPanel plans make use of the nameservers cdns1.main-hosting.eu and cdns2.main-hosting.eu.
